Chanter Eve Ensler on earthquakes

Daimoku chanter and awesome vagina promoter Eve Ensler suggests in this clip that global warming causes earthquakes. Yeah, that's what she said. The right-wing blogosphere is dissing her for it.

Still, that's not as bad as asserting -- as some Nichiren fundamentalists do -- that earthquakes are caused by incorrect beliefs.

the easiest job in the world?
Vagina promoter? It must be one of the most beloved things in the world. Does someone promote breathing?
Bill McGuire of the University College London's Hazard Research Center has been saying for several years that global warming would cause earthquakes. Ms Vagina Monologues and Danny Glover are two people who have mentioned this in connection with the earthquake in Haiti. I don't really understand all the science of it but anything that upsets Republicans I'm in favor of to the fullest extent.

Vagina Monologues
Clown, have you ever seen the Vagina Monologues? In part, it points out the pervasive misogyny and literal violence against the vagina in our world. This is a dickocracy we live in, where the cock is celebrated and the vagina is dissed or marginalized. Ensler deserves huge credit for helping to change this.

I'm not a scientist, but the added weight caused by sea level rise on the subduction zones possibly could cause earthquakes. However, if you listen to what Eve said, she never said earthquakes were caused by global warming. She just said both of those phrases in the same sentence.

The sky is falling
No, it would not. The weight is distributed evenly over the surface and so is negligible compared to the weight of the water that's already there. Climate scientists are desperately trying to get people to panic.

Panic In The Streets, 1950 Noir.

Is the "bubonic plague" going to strike New Orleans, or just the pulmonary version, the "pneumonic plague".

Burdened by the knowledge that the massive investigation has little chance of success, Reed accuses Warren of not taking the threat seriously enough. In turn, Warren admits that he thinks Reed is ambitious and trying to use the situation to further his career.

Those scientists and their machinations!
Why are they desperate to have panic?

Huh?
I'm not sure what is your point here.

If I recall correctly the connection between global warming and earthquakes involves ice not water. The ice pack on land surfaces can actually be quite thick and heavy, I believe you can be talking about a mile or more. If the ice pack melts away the removal of that weight can have a significant effect on the land, if the land in question happens to be on a fault line.

This theory arose when scientists noticed a strong correlation between the frequency of earthquakes in the Aleutian Islands off Alaska and the thickness of the icepack. Specifically there were a lot of earthquakes there at the end of ice age periods, and none at other times.

This was one explanation they came up with. I believe they did some calculations of the weight of the ice pack, but they really don't know how much change of weight it would take to trigger earthquakes so it is just a theory.
